Capitol School of Austin serves children who demonstrate average to above average learning potential with diagnosed speech, language, learning or communication delays. Children may also have additional difficulties with fine motor, sensory processing, and/or pre-academic/academic delays as a result of their learning challenges.
Children who benefit from our program may have the following diagnoses:
- Expressive Language Disorder
- Receptive Language Disorder
- Phonological and Articulation Disorders (including Apraxia)
- Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorders
- Auditory Processing Disorder
- Specific Learning Disorder in Math (Dyscalculia)
- Specific Learning Disorder in Writing (Dysgraphia)
- Specific Learning Disorder in Reading (Dyslexia)
- Certain Neurological and/or Genetic Disorders
- Level 1 Autism Spectrum Disorder considered
And other learning difficulties related to:
- ADD/ADHD
- Executive functioning
- Processing speed
- Working memory
- Delayed gross & fine motor skills
- Low self-esteem or self-confidence
CSA is not an appropriate placement for children who have:
- Level 2 and 3 Autism Spectrum Disorder.
- Emotional/behavioral disorders
- Below average learning potential (limited cognitive function)
- A history of aggression or non-compliance
- Significant ADHD and are disruptive
- A negative impact on the group dynamic
